J Bar K Farms is pleased to announce the launch of E12 Equine Performance, a division of J Bar K Farms. Through our deep involvement in equine sports, we have developed both practical and educational insight into the critical importance of maintaining our equine partners in optimal physical condition. This commitment ensures they can perform their roles safely and competitively at the highest level of their discipline.
Horses in the program are handled and ridden primarily by Kristen Davies, an accomplished rider in her respective discipline and over 30 years of experience as a lifelong student and competitor. Horses may also be conditioned by an aspiring horseman/horsewoman under Kristen's close supervision and guidance.

Our performance horse conditioning methodology is built on one principle: train with precision, protect longevity, and optimize results. Every session begins with a purposeful warm-up to prepare muscles, joints, and the cardiovascular system for work. We then integrate real-time heart rate monitoring, allowing us to measure your horse’s true physiological response to exercise and tailor intensity to exact conditioning needs—eliminating guesswork while maximizing fitness, performance, and safety. A structured cool-down follows to gradually return the body to baseline, supporting efficient recovery and reducing post-work stress. Once the horse is warm, targeted stretching is incorporated to enhance flexibility, improve range of motion, reduce muscle tension, and identify early signs of stiffness or imbalance before they develop into injury. Each session concludes with red light therapy, a non-invasive, drug-free modality that supports tissue repair, circulation, inflammation management, and musculoskeletal recovery at multiple depths. Together, these five components form a science-driven, comprehensive conditioning system designed to keep performance horses stronger, sounder, and competing at their peak—session after session, season after season.

Horse conditioning refers to the physiological preparation and physical fitness development of the horse. It focuses on strengthening the cardiovascular system, musculoskeletal system, endurance, and overall physical capacity through progressive exercise and workload management. Conditioning makes the horse fit and physically capable of performing the demands of its discipline while maintaining soundness and minimizing injury risk. The goal of conditioning is improved physical performance, fitness, and adaptation to work demands through gradual overload and structured exercise.
Horse training, by contrast, refers to the learning and behavioral development of the horse. It involves teaching specific skills, responses, and behaviors—such as cues, maneuvers, and discipline-specific movements—using principles of learning and reinforcement. Training targets the horse’s neurological and cognitive systems, helping it perform desired actions reliably, understand rider aids, and respond appropriately in various contexts.

Rates vary based on program structure and frequency, with multiple options available to accommodate a range of budgets. We offer structured conditioning programs ranging from three to six days per week, starting at $160 per week (board not included). Please contact us to discuss available options and determine the program best suited to your horse’s needs.
